With Ozzy Osbourne sadly passing away at 76 years old, the entire music industry took a moment to remember the Prince of Darkness. Having entertained and inspired countless artists over the decades, Osbourne’s career ended with one final performance alongside Black Sabbath on July 5. While the Back to the Beginning concert celebrated the legacy of Black Sabbath, not a single person could predict he would pass only a few weeks later. And with tributes pouring in, Jake E. Lee shared the last text message he received from Ozzy.
Back in 1982, Lee found himself performing alongside Ozzy on albums like Bark at the Moon and The Ultimate Sin. Only staying with the band for five years, the musician left a lasting impression on the Prince of Darkness. Lee even traveled to be part of the Back to the Beginning event.
Thrilled to celebrate Ozzy’s career, apparently, the singer wanted to connect with Lee when he returned to LA. Sharing a post on Facebook, the musician wrote, “Still processing it.” Revealing that Ozzy looked forward to reconnecting, Lee added, “This was a text I got from him as I was sitting in an airport headed back home two weeks ago.”
Looking ahead to the future, Ozzy hoped to reconnect with Lee as he wrote, “Hi jake im so sorry i couldnt spend more time with you on the weekend but it was really caotic ,i would really like to see you when i eventually get back TO LA just to shoot the shit its been so long since we saw each other , where have are you living these days , because the last thing i herd was you were living in Las Vegas is.”
Although it had been years since they performed together, Ozzy promised to find time for Lee when he returned to the United States. “How did the gig go for you on Saturday i really hope you had fun anyway i will text you when i eventually get back to LA and we must hook up much love and respect OZZY.”
Sadly, that meeting will never happen. And while Lee processed the passing of Ozzy, the memories shared together are sure to comfort him through the coming months.
